Ms. Charlotte ROCKS! Under the direction of Ms. Charlotte the children of 1-303 made a phenominal scarecrow that was entered in the PTA Scarecrow Contest. Silly Sally turned a lot of heads. Silly Sally went to town, leaping backwards, upside down.

Jacqueline's mom, Stacey, came to our room for a great veggie shapes activity. We made the shape of a cat out of cauliflower, carrots, squash and celery. After we completed the cat we munched on veggies, humus and olives. We had a great time.

We were treated to a lesson in finger knitting by Sophia's mom, Renata. After some confusion we were able to get some nice work done. Once again, we had a great parent helper turnout. Thanks Renata!

With the help of the Metropolitan Opera Guild we will be writing our own short opera this year. It looks like we, as a grade, have chosen to base this year's first grade operas on the books of Leo Lionni. Our class will probably be performing a version of "Frederick." We'll be working with Sarah Best (pictured). Ms. Best is an opera singer and teacher with The Met. More to come...

Tuesday was Grandparents Day at P.S. 10. In 1-303 we were lucky to have three pairs of grandparents visit us. The grandparents of Mia, Kayla and Anthony were kind enough to spend time in 1-303. Thank you for coming and for sharing your grandchildren with us.

Frances Oramas started off our Friday Parent Fun program. Next week we welcome Cal's mom, Dempsey into 1-303 for some autumn leaf rubbing. Some future activities include sign language with Lila's grandma and veggie arrangements with Jacqueline's mom, Stacey. Knox's dad has a great idea for some fun with graphics. Sign up NOW.
Every Friday during 7th period we meet with our 4th grade reading buddies from Ms. Morrison's class. We can't wait for next Friday.
